Active Re Strengthens Its Engagement in Barbados Through BIBA Membership

PRESS RELEASE

Barbados, August 2026 – Active Re has become a member of BIBA, the private-sector trade organisation representing more than 130 firms engaged in global business in Barbados, reinforcing the reinsurer’s commitment to maintaining an active role within the jurisdiction and the wider Caribbean market.

For an international reinsurer, close engagement with the markets in which it operates is essential to understanding regulatory developments, evolving risk environments, and the factors shaping clients’ businesses. Membership of BIBA provides Active Re with an additional platform through which to participate in discussions relevant to Barbados’ international business and financial services sectors.

Active Re will also have the opportunity to engage with BIBA’s specialist working committees, including its Insurance Committee, providing a forum for the exchange of perspectives with insurers, brokers, financial institutions, regulators and other market participants.

“For a reinsurer, being close to a market means more than having a commercial presence. It means understanding how the regulatory and business environment is evolving, remaining connected to the issues affecting insurers and brokers, and contributing meaningfully to industry dialogue. Our membership of BIBA strengthens that engagement in Barbados and supports the long-term relationships that are central to the way we do business,” said Robert Ali, COO of Active Re.

As the Association for global business in Barbados, BIBA acts as an established voice for the international business community, engaging with government, regulatory authorities and private-sector stakeholders on matters affecting the development and competitiveness of the jurisdiction.

For Active Re, joining the organisation also provides an opportunity to bring its international reinsurance perspective to relevant industry discussions, while deepening its understanding of the market and strengthening relationships across Barbados and the wider Caribbean.

Active Re operates across more than 130 countries, with a business model underpinned by technical discipline, portfolio diversification and long-term relationships with cedants, brokers and business partners. From its base in Barbados, the company continues to develop an international reinsurance platform capable of responding to the evolving needs of clients across markets and lines of business.
